• Accreditation of media practitioners, media training institutions, media production houses
• Conduct professional development activities for the media in Malawi such as trainings, awards
• Encourage an ongoing dialogue between the media, government and the public through conferences, seminars, symposia and other fora;
• Maintain, improving  and promote the status of journalism as a profession so that media practitioners should have a sense of pride and belonging;
• Promote and safeguard the interests of its members and the public in all matters affecting the profession;
• Establish and operate an audit bureau of circulation; conduct research relevant to the media;
